Policies & Procedures

This information is being provided to assist you in moving to Mines Park and help alleviate some of the questions or concerns that may arise upon your arrival. Please read this information thoroughly prior to moving in to your unit.

  • Before you move in, please take time to walk through your unit with your condition sheet in hand and note any problems.  Be sure to check all faucets, the toilet, shower, icemaker, dishwasher, stove, door knobs, window locks, etc. If you find something wrong, please write it down and get the condition form back to your Resident Manager as soon as you can.
  • Once you have completed your condition form and return it to your Resident Manager, you will get your mailbox key. The Post Office has requested that you check your mailbox at least once a week!
  • You need to transfer utilities to your name(s). Call XCEL Energy at 1-800-895-4999 and provide your information so the utilities will be transferred on your move in date.
  • Expanded basic cable television is provided for you and all jacks should be active. The living room and each bedroom are equipped with a digital box and remote control.
  • Wireless and wired internet is provided. If you have questions concerning the network please contact Campus Computing located in the CTLM building. Personal wireless routers are not allowed and are against campus policy.
  • There is ample parking throughout the complex. Single students living in campus housing are allowed to have only one vehicle on campus at any given time. Married persons living in family housing are allowed a maximum of two vehicles on campus at any given time. There are no assigned spaces for each unit so please be courteous to your neighbors and any visitors. DO NOT park in any FIRE LANE or where there is not a designated parking stall. Public Safety will be doing patrols and issuing tickets for illegal parking. Please also honor all traffic signage, including speed limit signs. To help with snow removal, please do not park your car over the curb during the winter months. For complete parking policies, go to http://inside.mines.edu/Parking.
  • Please remember that you have entered a landlord/tenant contract and you are living in a facility that is governed by a contract. As a reminder, pets are not allowed, neither are window air conditioners, satellite dishes, security systems, or ceiling fans, and since these buildings are State facilities, SMOKING IS NOT ALLOWED IN THE UNITS (per Colorado State Law). If you have specific questions about what you are allowed to do please ask first as that will save us all time and energy. Please review your contract if you have questions.
  • If you have certain items that you find not working after you have returned your condition form, please fill out the Facilities Management Work Order Request. They will make every effort to address the problem within 5 working days.
  • Please keep dumpster lids closed and put your trash inside the dumpster. DO NOT leave trash bags outside of your door. Take them to the dumpster! We appreciate your effort and consideration in helping keep Mines Park clean.
  • If a smoke detector/CO detector horn sounds, exit the apartment immediately and call 911. Please replace the batteries in your smoke detector/CO detector when the detector "beeps". This is the indicator that the battery needs to be changed. Please replace the battery at least once per year, regardless. Remember this piece of equipment is for life safety. Carbon monoxide is odorless and colorless. Always exit the apartment immediately when the alarm sounds and wait for emergency personnel to respond before going back inside.
  • Please use barbecues away from any structure. Barbecues are only allowed on the. You may not have a barbeque on the second or third floor. Again, think life safety first and smoke infiltration second.
  • Keep children's toys picked up. Do not let toys become a hazard to others. Also, toys that become abandoned or unsightly may be disposed of by our staff.
  • Keep balconies and stair landings clear of any storage items. These areas are fire escape routes and cannot be blocked at any time. The areas beneath stair landings are not for personal storage. If this becomes a problem, staff may dispose of any items.
  • Bike racks have been provided for your convenience. DO NOT chain bikes to trees, rails, stairs, etc.
  • Fire extinguishers are placed throughout the complex in convenient locations for your area should you need them in an emergency. Remember, these are for life safety. Please take a moment to become familiar with the location of the fire extinguishers.
  • Please use sidewalks or streets for walking paths. Do not cut through gardens, rock beds, etc. Remember, a beautiful landscape adds greatly to your surroundings.
  • During the summer months, the sprinklers for the lawn will run automatically and varies according to the water sensors. Mowing days are usually Monday—please make sure your personal belongings are picked up and removed from the lawn prior to mowing day.
